Handwoven and hand dyed indigo cotton from northern Ghana. Side slit pockets, slim rolled lapel. Loose fitting unlined overcoat perfect for layering. 

This textile has a rich history, and was traded across the Sahel as a currency long before colonization in West Africa. Stripweaving from northern Ghana is now primarily made into Batakari, a loose smock that Northern men dance and twirl in.

  • Indigo Care: 
    We wash all of our indigo fabrics several times, but please note that our natural indigo pieces will crock. If crocking persists, please try soaking and washing the garment in a vinegar solution (10 parts water to 1 part white vinegar) and drying in the sun.

  • What is crocking?
    This means for the first few wears you should expect some color loss. This tendency is a sign of authenticity in West Africa, and the blue is considered to have medicinal properties on the skin.

  • Handwoven care: 
    We recommend spot cleaning this garment if it becomes visibly stained. If it must be cleaned then we recommend dry cleaning. You may machine wash alone in cold water, and hang dry.

We ship USPS to orders in the United States. All other countries we use DHL. We ship within 1-5 days of order time. If you have specific mailing needs or a rush, please get in touch when you order. All packages we ship are trackable.

All tax, customs and import duties will be levied by the customer’s local government. All such fees are the responsibility of the customer. This can range from 10%–40% of the order value, depending on the customer’s delivery address. We are not responsible for customs delays, duties or taxes on international shipments.
