100% hand cast brass wall hook | 8" tall | made in Ghana for Osei-Duro

Lost-wax casting was developed by the Asante people in Ghana to make objects for gold transactions, such as weights and canisters. Like their forefathers, Ghana’s brass casters begin the process of making metal articles by sculpting in beeswax. The wax form is then painted with a paste of fine charcoal and water and covered in a mold of coarse palm fibers and clay. This porous mixture permits the necessary release of hot air and gases as the mold is baked, giving the final product a smooth finish. Finally, the wax is poured out and replaced by molten recycled brass. Each mold can only be used once, meaning that each piece is individually hand sculpted. The finished brass pieces are polished with palm nut fibers and sand over several days.

All Osei-Duro brass work is created by traditional casters in the Asante region of Ghana.

 We fulfill all online orders from our distribution center in Colorado. We offer free shipping on all orders over USD$200. For all other orders please see below:

  • USA:  $8.00 first item, $4.00 each additional item.

  • Canada: USD$10.00 first item, USD$4.00 each additional item. 

  • Australia:  USD$10.00 first item, USD$4.00 each additional item.

  • UK:  USD$15.00 first item, USD$4.00 each additional item.

  • Rest of the world:  USD$17.00 first item, USD$4.00 each additional item.

We ship USPS to orders in the United States. All other countries we use DHL. We ship within 1-5 days of order time. If you have specific mailing needs or a rush, please get in touch when you order. All packages we ship are trackable.

All tax, customs and import duties will be levied by the customer’s local government. All such fees are the responsibility of the customer. This can range from 10%–40% of the order value, depending on the customer’s delivery address. We are not responsible for customs delays, duties or taxes on international shipments.
