Made with traditionally hand woven cotton Fugu cloth from Northern Ghana, our Theca Coat features side slit pockets, and a slim rolled lapel. A loose fitting unlined overcoat, great for layering.

Strip cloth is a special textile has a rich history, and was traded across the Sahel as a currency long before colonization in West Africa. Strip weaving from northern Ghana is now primarily made into Batakari, a loose smock that northern men dance and twirl in. We buy strips from traditional weavers around Tamale, in Ghana's Northern Region, which we join into larger fabric in the south, and then cut to sew into our Theca Coats. Master Tailor Bawah Issaka has been sewing our Theca Coats for years, and pipes the seams of each coat, making the inside feel as considered as the outside.

    Osei-Duro garments are hand dyed and each piece is unique. Please note that print placement and hue may vary.

    100% handwoven cotton

    Hand dyed with natural indigo, ikat warp

    Indigo Care: 
    We wash all of our indigo fabrics several times, but please note that our natural indigo pieces will crock. If crocking persists, please try soaking and washing the garment in a vinegar solution (10 parts water to 1 part white vinegar) and drying in the sun.


    This means for the first few wears you should expect some color loss. This tendency is a sign of authenticity in West Africa, and the blue is considered to have medicinal properties on the skin.


     
    We recommend spot cleaning this garment if it becomes visibly stained. If it must be cleaned then we recommend dry cleaning. You may machine wash alone in cold water, and hang dry.

    We fulfill all online orders from our distribution center in Colorado. We offer free shipping on all orders over USD$300. For all other orders please see below:

    • USA:  $8.00 first item, $4.00 each additional item.

    • Canada: USD$10.00 first item, USD$4.00 each additional item. 

    • Australia:  USD$10.00 first item, USD$4.00 each additional item.

    We ship USPS to orders in the United States. All other countries we use DHL. We ship within 1-5 days of order time. If you have specific mailing needs or a rush, please get in touch when you order. All packages we ship are trackable.

    All tax, customs and import duties will be levied by the customer’s local government. All such fees are the responsibility of the customer. This can range from 10%–40% of the order value, depending on the customer’s delivery address. We are not responsible for customs delays, duties or taxes on international shipments.
